The truth is that nobody was surprised when I announced that I wanted to be an engineer: since I was a kid, just because curiosity, I used to dismantle all kinds of devices to understand how they worked, doing all kinds of experiments or developing a passion for science fiction. Technology was always something magical for me, hypnotic and powerful. The mere opportunity to participate in its development is what brought me to engineering.

My name is Eduardo Méndez and I am a Telecommunications Engineer specialised in Embedded Systems and related technologies. Behind me I have more than 12 years of experience working in different companies of all kinds, with a wide variety of projects, technologies, environments and requirements.

This wide variety of different experiences gives me a great capacity of adaptation, providing new perspectives and solutions. And not only on the technical side, since I have also managed work teams and projects, helping clients to define their needs according to their objectives and available resources.

Despite the years, I still keep my curiosity and enthusiasm. Always trying to learn, discover and moving forward. Will you join me on this journey? You can find me here.

Ps: if you don’t find me in front of the screen, you can find me on a trail in the mountains, and lately, also in the kitchen.

Experience

Knowledge comes from experience

A wide and varied experience is what has brought me here. Here is a brief summary of my professional experience.

Sept 2018 – Today

Supporting the EGNOS V3 project at Airbus facilities in Ottobrunn (Munich area). Main activities:

  • Support to design, implementation and validation of SW Algorithmic Functions (AFs)
  • Performance validation of AF models (including run-time)
  • Software acceptance / testing and verification. MISRA-C standard is applied in these tasks.
  • Requirements management

Strategic project for the EU with strict deadlines.

Feb 2017 – Aug 2018

Head of the Embedded SW department at RBZ. Responsible for supervising, managing and motivating team members on a daily basis. In addition, I was in charge of distributing the project tasks, setting and discussing deadlines for the internal team and agreeing with customers on the different technical aspects.

Mar 2010 – Feb 2017

I have been working in very different projects related to stand-alone applications, RTOS, Linux embedded or FPGA designs, to be mostly used in the railway, military or aerospace industries, but also in IoT devices. The complexity and length of these projects are very heterogeneous: from 3 to 18 months, at any level of embedded SW design. All projects in tight deadline constraints. Very brief description of several projects where I have been working:

  • Complete design of an ADS-B Mode-S receiver for ATC (Air Traffic Control) applications based entirely on a FPGA design
  • Design of a highly adaptive tester to verify satellite payloads
  • SW design for a power distribution box for heavy military vehicles (J1939)
  • Critical SW design for a railway signaling system (SIL-4)

Progressively specialized in safety and critical applications.

Jul 2009 – Feb 2010

Responsible for firmware development in the new domestic security system of an important international security company. This project involved the software of four different wireless devices, dealing with low power constraints and a timeline very adjusted.

Complete perspective about the project: electronic, firmware, radio interface, communication protocols, etc.

Aug 2008 – Mar 2009

Consultant in Pace working in the design and implementation of a Web Information System to be used in interoperability and testing events. The purpose of this project was to accelerate the testing phase of new products.

Project with a certain complexity and a very adjusted timeline.

Feb 2008 – Jul 2008

Internship to write my studies final project developed in the laboratory CITI-INRIA (Lyon), in collaboration with France Telecom. Project title: “Implementation FPGA/DSP of a multi-array multi-mode receiver based on Software Defined Radio (SDR)”. This project was developed by using two digital boards, each of them with one FPGA and four DSPs.
